Mom Style

When I started this blog, I was childless and teaching. I loved clothes and fashion. I knew designers, bought expensive clothes, and could care less if something was practical.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I still love clothes, and want to look nice, but price and practicality play a much bigger part. I love seeing what other moms blog about wearing, but I can't justify $200 shorts or dry-clean only shirts for the park. After all, we are a one-income family with a toddler and a baby.

I ordered a few things at the beginning of the summer that I love. Since they were successes, I thought I would share.

Forever 21
Yes, I am many years past 21, but I still love this store.

Picture these shorts without that lovely top. I love them. They are the most comfortable things ever. They come in three colors, and I have the teal pictured above. In fact, I wore them three times in row. Gross? Yes. I should probably order some more colors for that price. The size medium provides adequate room for this post-baby bod.

I have a weird addiction to stripes. In fact, I own a few black/navy and white striped shirts, but this is my favorite. It is so soft, and I like that it is a little longer in the back to cover my backside if I am wearing leggings.

Target
Seriously the only "store" I have taken the boys in with me. I like being able to try on clothes before loading a cart up with Spagetti-O's.

I loved this so much, I bought it in another color. Again, it is soft, comfortable, machine washable, inexpensive, and is a bit longer. Target has cheaper tee, but "splurge" with the $12 option. I have washed mine several times, and they are still nice and long and haven't lost their shape.

I typically don't wear many dresses when I am nursing, but I have loved this one this summer. If I am out and about, I just wear leggings under it. It is perfect with sandals and fun jewelry. I feel like it hits at the right places too.

H&M

I saw a co-worker wearing these during post-planning and immediately ordered them (like during a meeting where they were discussing how teachers were finally getting a raise the year I leave.) I have actually worn these to the park (with a tee) and out to dinner with friends (with a button down, chiffon blouse.) I am so glad elastic waist shorts are on trend this summer. (Let's face it, even if they weren't on trend, I would being wearing elastic waist anyway.)

Any the best part? You can order all off these things and have spent less than $70. I rest my case.

Deal of the Day

WHAT!?! An actual post about something fashion related and not another Woody post?! Who am I?

Well, this post kinda relates back to Woody, but whatev.

Woody gets baptized next month, and I refuse to let him be the only one who gets a new dress.

In searching, I found this adorable number.

I know, right? The best part...

on sale for $49.95!!!

Anthropologie and I have a love/hate relationship (the word trendy librarian comes to mind), but I am obsessed with this dress. Too bad it isn't right for church, but that doesn't stop my major crush on it.

Look for Less- Maxi Dress

Slacker-I know. I haven't even been busy- just lazy. Oh, and there is nothing too exciting to report. I am not in labor, but my doctor won't let me travel more than an hour away. The 4th of July just got a lot less exciting.

Remember this dress that I wanted, but didn't quite have the 551 bucks for it? I found a casual version of it for $22.19!

Sofia by Sofia Vergara Women's Dress Banded Maxi Hot Rod

Not an exact match, but really cute and a great price!

Like It, Love It, Gotta Have It

Like It:

I found this dress on Pinterest....

I really like it- Halston Heritage. But it is sold out. Maybe that is a good thing. It was $551.

Love It:

I am going to be honest. I was really worried about Jammer cramping my style. Then I heard this song...

I feel now like Amy Poehler is Mean Girls when she said, "I'm not like a regular mom, I'm a cool mom."

GOTTA HAVE IT:

Saw these on Peppermint Bliss yesterday...

To say I am obsessed is the understatement of the century. I'm not sure how well they would work in teaching Jammer about gun safety, but I doubt shim will care. Shim will be too bust thinking of how cool I am ...while listening to Baby Mama.

I have been also busy searching for "gun chairs" This was not what I was looking for.

Mine for Nine

Sometimes you hear of of business and go "Why Didn't I Think of That!?"

This is one of those times.

In trying to buy maternity clothes that were A) Not frumpy B) Not ridiculously expensive. (These two things rarely coincide with each other.) I can across the site Mine for Nine where you can borrow maternity clothes for the months that you need them. Think of it as Rent the Runway for the knocked up.

For example, I found this really cute Olian dress, but at $125, I decided to skip out on it. However, I can borrow for only $32!

I Can't Wear It, You Should

Last night, I decided to do a late night to the mall. (Perks of living a block away.) In a failed attempt to get some maternity clothes, I pass by The Limited. This store was a staple for me in college since we had about 5 somewhat decent stores in Tuscaloosa. However, I haven't really shopped there very much since moving to Atlanta.

I was amazed with their storefront window. I really wish I had taken a picture. It was full of brights and pops of colors. The prices are a lot more teacher- friendly than other stores with the same trends.

Here are some of my favorites.

Both of these dresses are in the fifty dollar range. Score!

(High-waist pencil skirts, how I miss you.)

Like It, Love It, Gotta Have It

Today I am so thankful for for a relaxing weekend. Our master bathroom was FINALLY completed, and I am much enjoying it. I cannot wait to post progress on the nursery (but oh wait, there is none.)

What are my Coldstone's Favorites for this week?

Like It:

Even though shopping has become way less fun with the new addition of a bump in the front, I am really digging this Tobi Dress for only $37. Note: Would definitely add tights.

Love It:

Doctor's Appointment Today!! This will be the only time I celebrate going to the doctor. Oh, and the fact I only have to work a 1/2 day. BONUS!

GOTTA HAVE IT:

Deal of the Day.

The Law of Fashion states, "If Lindsey likes it, don't count on it going on sale. In fact, plan on it selling out."

Until now! I saw this "City of Lights" dress at Anthropologie a few weeks back, but at $178, I decided to keep shopping.

Now it is on sale for $39.95. Love it.

Golden Globe Recap- The Good, The Bad, The Navy

Even though the Golden Globes aired Sunday night, I wasn't able to watch it until Monday on DVR thanks to the NFL playoffs. However, the pups and I quite enjoyed watching (and critiquing) the awards fashion.

Let's first face the facts, navy has become the "go-to" color. It has become one of the most popular dress colors, and the Golden Globe attendees followed suit.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang
Isn't she stunning? This is dress is definitely in my top three for best dressed. Some critics are saying that it was too predictable. Come on people, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka
She is 66 people. Wow.

Michelle Williams in Jason Wu
Not amazed with the dress, but so much better than last year's disaster.

Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen
Not exactly navy, but in the family. I was SO close to loving this dress, but those shoulders-eek! Not sure what she is doing with that hair either.

Who got it right? These are a few of my favorite looks...

Claire Danes
Black. White. Simple. Elegant.

Jessica Alba in Gucci
Brad Goreski- you don't disappoint

Nicole Kidman in Versace.
Kills It.

Stacy Kiebler in Valentino
Apparently, she let George (Clooney. Her Boyfriend. Seriously.) choose her dress. I think he has an eye for beauty.

Now (my secret-favorite), the MISSES:

Jessica Biel in Elie Saab
Hello, creepy wedding dress

Even Madonna tried to destroy this dress...

Which leads me to my next disaster...

Madonna in Reem Acra
Maybe it is just that I find her extremely annoying

Lea Michele in Marchesa
Why don't I like it? Lea is so tiny, but I felt that it made her have linebacker shoulders. Also, it made me very nervous for a wardrobe malfunction.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in her daughter's finger paint...I mean Monique Lhullier

Zooey Deschanel in Prada
Don't wear a color that looks like a sinus infection

Natalie Portman in Lavin
Last year, she had a bump in the front. I guess she really liked it and decided to attach it to her hip.

Now, I just can't decide on how I feel about this number...

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace
What do you think? I just can't decide. (Although, I can safely say that Angie's arms are looking scary skinny!)

And finally, we can't forget the REAL best dressed...

UGGIE!
Man, I love me a Jack Russell :)

Who was your best/worst dressed?

Rule Breaker

I can't believe that I am writing this post.

I am the girl that is the firmest believer in the Labor Day-Easter rule: No white, no linen, no seersucker. No ifs, ands, or buts.

But I think it might be time to be a rule breaker... somewhat. What do you need for fall? Why a little white dress of course.

I am THRILLED that Blair from Atlantic-Pacific agrees with me...

And wait, Taylor from Sterling Style does as well...

My friend Sus gave me this French Connection dress which I wore to her rehearsal...
(Hooray for being 5'4" with 5'10 friends. Why yes I will take your too short dresses.)

And I paired it with my favorite black pumps...

From Husband's grandmother's closet. Vintage and I love.
(Wow- do I buy any of my own clothes?)

Orange You Glad I Didn't Say Banana?

First of all, I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was spent between football and 9/11 coverage. I still cannot believe that it has been ten years.
Second, how excited are you for the Missoni for Target debut tomorrow?!?!!
Third,

USWeekly was gabbing about Gwyneth and her love of short orange dresses. It pains me to say, but I am with Gwyn. Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of Florida, Tennessee, or Auburn (can you tell it's football season), but orange has become one of my favorite colors... TO WEAR...NOT SUPPORT!

This weekend, go score your own orange dress for the fall.

(I bought this dress in the store last week for $11.99 though!)

My favorite way to wear orange? Give me some turquoise jewels and nude flats for day. Leo-pard shoes bring it into the night.
