Why So Tardy?

I am partaking in irresponsible, child-free behaviors lately. I slept until noon and ate a Pop Tart for breakfast. The rest of my day will consist of floating in my community's pool while small children stare at me. Since these days are numbered, I am taking full, guilt-free advantage of them.

Onto other news, my sister does impressive things.

No, I am not talking about this door hanger, but she remembers to take her camera to my baby shower. And she posts them. I hope one day I have my life together like her.

Tomorrow, I plan to be tardy again. This time, I will be at the doctor looking at Jammer!!! Too bad I will be looking at shim at 7:20 in the morning. Sigh, but worth it!

Oh Lookie Here...

This arrived in the mail this weekend....

My swatches from Restoration Hardware finally showed up. Yep, ordered them right after Christmas, and they came at the end of May. I really do like the colors (like my custom bedding better though), and they are not too blue- definitely gray.

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. I was able to spend it with my sweet parents who came to keep me company while Husband was away.

Deal of the Day- Summer Sandal

One thing I lucked out on is that I have short feet. They are wide, but still short- think squares. So when summer rolls around, I tend to look in the children's section because they are a.)cheaper and b.) less likely to be on everyone else's foot.

I was super excited when I found these at Target for $14.99. Grabbed a size 5 (normally I am a 7 in women's shoes) and they fit perfectly!

I was even more excited when they rang up for $11.99. Thinking of purchasing the fun pink as well!

Reupholstered Ottoman

After a year of living with it, Husband and I bit the bullet and purchased a new couch. I am very happy with the new purchase.

However, being the cheap apparent, newly-found DIY person I am, I couldn't completely let go of the old couch. It had a removable chaise that I thought would serve as a perfect ottoman. Unfortunately, the dogs had given it some love last year.

Yep, stapled it back together

Repeat: I love my dogs, I love my dogs....

Of course there were tons of of fabrics I wanted, but this project had to stay on a budget. Luckily, Hancock Fabrics was having a sale, and I found some great upholstery fabric for $5.00 a yard.

(used the blue, but also really liked the green mattress ticking)

The rest was really easy. Removed the couch attachment. Folded the fabric and stapled down. To reinforce  the corners, I added a little nailhead.

And a brand new ottoman!

Total Cost:

Fabric: 2 yards (probably could have gotten away with 1.5 yards) @ $5.00 a piece = $10.00
Nailhead: 2 boxes @ $1.99 a piece = $3.98

Total: $13.98
I don't hate it....

The Nursery: Bedding

Today is my first official day of summer vacation. Combined with my maternity leave, I will be spending the next 4.5 months at home. I am sure I will be bored miserable....

I also learned to close my stroller. I was really good at it when we got it, but then I completely forgot my technique. Good news, I got it back (after some minor bruising)...hope it lasts until July.

Onto all things nursery...In case you need a recap of what I have already done, you can read about the paint and the pie safe (both are Pulitzer winners).

The Bedding: Remember this? The elephants were a little masculine and didn't match the art I wanted to use. I decided to start over. So one weekend, Mom came up and we decided to tackle some fabric stores. Being that I am not a designer and have no clue what I was doing, I left store number two in tears. Yep..hormonal breakdown over textiles...it happens.

I did come home with an idea of what I wanted. Unfortunately, at $20 a yard, it just wasn't in the budget. Mom and Sister saved the day though! They found the same fabric at Fabric Guru, and it was less that $10 a yard. Score! I proudly showed Husband what I had found, when someone decided to have an opinion. (Funny how there was no opinion when I invited him to join me at those fabric stores.)

"I don't like it... looks country." Husband says.

Fantastic. (I decided not to post the fabric in case you love it/have used it.) Only slightly annoyed at the man who seemed to forget that I grew up in the country, I told him to tell me what he liked. (Dangerous.) He came back with this.

Richloom Modesto Linen

I loved it. Husband was right. Sigh. I ordered and sent it to Mom to make the crib skirt using Erika's (from Urban Grace) technique. Done.

So I had the crib skirt fabric, but I still needed the sheet and bumper. Since I have champagne taste on a beer budget, the crib sheet needed to come from Target. It's close, it's online, it's inexpensive.

I liked how the khaki lattice had a gold-ish tint. And it was $9.99. Done.

The bumper won't be in the crib always, but when it is, I wanted it to compliment the crib skirt, not compete. I decided to go with a solid, light gray bumper. Easy right? WRONG! I could not find a solid bumper anywhere! I finally found one at Carousel Designs.

It looks white here, but it is light gray. And while we are on it, this company was fantastic in helping me in this process as I ordered the wrong color...twice. Done. Done. Done.

All three fabrics

The finished product...

Love me a bow.

All together!

A HUGE thank you to Mom for making my crib skirt. You are a talented and patient lady! I know Jammer is going to be obsessed with it.

And thank you to you for reading this. Slow Wednesday, eh?

Life Is Good

Period.

I had my second baby shower this weekend, and it was wonderful. I cannot believe that I have only eight more weeks (and one day) until we meet Jammer and give shim an actual name.

Later this week I completely plan on doing a nursery update with.... a bedding update (control excitement)!!

In other exciting news, Lucy and Winnie won Elements of Style's Polka Dog giveaway!

(Winnie was being a tad camera shy. Luckily, Lucy is an old pro when it comes to a photo op.)

Little Puppy Love

Happiest Golden Ever! Love my Winnie

Lucy is DEFINITELY not supposed to be on the chair, but she looked so cute that I had to take a picture! (Then scolded her...great parenting I know.) She is such a regal pup.

Bad Blogger

This week, I am going to be a bad blogger.

It is the last week of school. It happens.

Sum up my week?

Remediate for CRCT retakes, lock-in with 110 fifth graders, have students retake CRCT, outdoor cook-out, a very formal fifth grade finale, and finally, load them up, send them out.

Check back tomorrow...hopefully I will have updated :)

Happy Birthday/Mother's Day/Anniversary/You Rock! Mom

Today, is my momma's birthday. I am so excited that tomorrow I will be home to celebrate her....

Oh, wait, tomorrow, we will be celebrating my parents' FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY! (Impressive I know.)

Hold the boat, Sunday is Mother's Day....

Mom, sorry you couldn't space all these special days out more! Brooks, Lucy, Winnie, Jammer, and I love you so much and cannot wait to celebrate YOU!

(Yes, this picture is from last year. Lu and Winnie were being a tad "difficult." Don't worry, next year they will have a buddy to hold the sign with!)

The Webster at Target

I never want to take being pregnant for granted. I know that this baby is a wonderful gift and miracle, and I am blessed beyond measure to have had such an easy pregnancy.

BUT...I think this baby is about to fall out of my butt. Shim is taking the expression "Get Low" to a whole new meaning.

Onto more fashionable types of things- Have you been in Target lately? Of course you have! And I am sure you have seen all of the "Shops at Target" signs. And while Lucy and Winnie have been drooling over the idea of Polka Dog, I am drooling over the Webster- originally based out of Miami.

My top three picks?

(Sorry so small and grainy)
Obsessed with all things baby

The Waffle Palace

Last night, Husband and I had a little date night to see the new play The Waffle Palace- based on real stories from the Waffle House. He was given the tickets for volunteering at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which made for a fun (and free) date. The play was at the Horizon Theatre, which happens to be in one of my favorite places, Little Five Points (lots of great people watching.) It opens to the public on May 11th, and I highly recommend it, especially to those who are from Atlanta. It was hilarious!

The Set

Prayers appreciated- It is Field Day. It is raining. I am pregnant. Help.

The Nursery: Pie Safe

I have learned that if my hands are idle, I will find a project.

My mother warned me that a nursery is constantly evolving and never will truly be finished. I want it to be finished. Yesterday.

Some things are out of my control. I have to learn to accept this. Tomorrow.

Last Monday, I was reading Shelter, and I saw this amazing photo.

And what made perfect sense? Let's redo the pie safe!

I proceeded to go to Home Depot on Tuesday and buy what I thought was a nice "avocado green" shade to paint the inside. (I wanted the lovely pink color above, but not sure how a potential son would feel about it.)

Fast forward to Saturday- Husband leaves for a race, so I find it the perfect time to get to painting. After one coat, I wasn't happy. I simply thought that maybe it needed another coat. I painted a second coat. It began to resemble a sick baby's diaper. I painted one more coat, and I was done. I hated it. I knew it was awful, but I had spent an entire day painting coats and letting it dry, and I did not want to redo it. I decided to text Husband to see what he thought. Maybe he would love it!

His response? "You purposely bought that color? It's not Oops Paint? Huh."

I knew he was right. I knew it was disgusting. I knew it needed to be changed.

I didn't want to go buy new paint/paint can get expensive after multiple purchases, so I grabbed an old can of Oops Paint that was a pretty minty color. (Oops paint=my BFF times a gazillion.) Even if I didn't keep it that color, it was better than Oscar the Grouch green.

Then, I took the fabric that I have had forever (it was once going to be used to make curtains, but who am I kidding?) and covered the two shelves with it. You may remember this fabric from here.

I can't get over how much I love that coral fabric. I am really digging it with the mint. Yum

Closer up.

This weekend, Husband and I plan to take some of our old baby toys from our parents' houses to fill the shelves with. I think I am going to leave the gnome though since I was pregnant this weekend and didn't know it :)

Yes, Please

Mondays are just doomed when it comes to blogging. I have pictures for a nursery update, but need more than five minutes to get them into a post. I am however most excited about Essie's newest collection...

Essie's "Office"Collection. I need.

And from this weekend...

Neither are backing down
There may be a pay-per-view special.

News and other Ramblings

First of all, I just want everyone to know that I plan on adopting a pocket goat in the near future. Hope it loves town home living...and is down with infants.

Last night, Hubs and I joined our church's small group to watch the Braves game. We had to leave at 9:00 for bed...apparently, it was a pretty amazing game. Whoops- sorry Hubs.

In nursery/OCD project news, I do have two piece of furniture that I am working on. One is a cheap desk that I am trying to turn into a sofa table. The other is a piece for Jammer's room. Hopefully, they will be finished soon, and I can show some progress pictures!

And finally, in teacher news, tonight it our fifth grade performance. Apparently, I tend to get a little "Toddlers and Tiaras" as I put them in rows for a well-spaced danced and am yelling, "Sparkle Baby!" every five seconds...kidding (sorta.) It will be interesting to see how the Evolution of Dance plays out tonight. The Running Man is proving difficult.

DIY- New Orleans Art

When Husband and I were in Alabama for Easter, we stopped by Prattville Pickers (which is an awesome flea/antique market if you are in the Montgomery/Prattville area.)

We love New Orleans art and couldn't pass up these four prints of the French Quarter...especially since they were only $5 a print.

Unfortunately, the mats were yellowed and the frames weren't my style. With Jammer on shim's way, I couldn't justify coughing up the money to get them re-matted and framed.

Solution? Why my BFF- black spray paint!

Much better. You will soon be finding your new home somewhere in my house!

Love A Good Sale- Z Gallerie

With the extra L-Bs, fashion blogs and sales have become less of an obsession. Instead, I am consumed with interior design blogs, magazines, sales, etc. One of my favorite places to shop for interiors is (and has been since setting foot in Atlanta) Z Gallerie. Ever since I scored a mirrored glass coffee table (for $40!!!!) there, I have made it a weekly stop.

While wandering around on ZGallerie.com, I stumbled upon this...

This needs to be in my house. Unfortunately, trying to justify this to Husband after I just sold our bar table and stools for a larger table was quite difficult. Therefore, I will pass the savings onto you. Don't you love it?

Something that did make it's way to my shopping bag?

(In case Jammer is a girl...or not.)
