I survived one of the longest, hardest days yesterday. Nothing to tragic, just hard.

Only to come home (at 6-ugh) to realize Husband had a board dinner that kept us out until ten. (I'm usually in my REM cycle by 10:00.)

I am here though- ready for Thursday. I found this picture on Bippity Boppity Boo (the ultimate cheer you up site) is really making me smile. So no fashion, pregnancy, or teaching update- just working for the weekend :)

This is one of those times.

In trying to buy maternity clothes that were A) Not frumpy B) Not ridiculously expensive. (These two things rarely coincide with each other.) I can across the site Mine for Nine where you can borrow maternity clothes for the months that you need them. Think of it as Rent the Runway for the knocked up.

For example, I found this really cute Olian dress, but at $125, I decided to skip out on it. However, I can borrow for only $32!

I Can't Wear It, You Should

Last night, I decided to do a late night to the mall. (Perks of living a block away.) In a failed attempt to get some maternity clothes, I pass by The Limited. This store was a staple for me in college since we had about 5 somewhat decent stores in Tuscaloosa. However, I haven't really shopped there very much since moving to Atlanta.

I was amazed with their storefront window. I really wish I had taken a picture. It was full of brights and pops of colors. The prices are a lot more teacher- friendly than other stores with the same trends.

Here are some of my favorites.

ASOS Shopping- Maternity Edition

Time to face the ugly- my clothes don't fit. I know that there are a lot of cute maternity shops out there, but remember, I am on a teacher budget. $300 for a tent dress I can only wear for 21 more weeks (GAH!) is unrealistic to say the least.

I decided to give ASOS Maternity a shot. I was reluctant. I have one dress from ASOS that is literally four sizes larger than I normally wear, but is still so tight I feel like Ally Darling...

(Side Note: Have you seen this movie? While slightly crude, I laughed so hard I worried I hurting Jammer. Go see it...now.)

Back on topic: I went ahead and ordered this a maxi dress. It was too pretty to pass up.

I ordered two sizes larger than I normally wear, and was much more satisfied with the sizing. In fact, it is a little big (which I am sure will change in the next few ~~months weeks~~ days.) The fact that it is supposed to be loose helps too. It was on sale (score) and under 40 bucks. Also, NO shipping! Super sweet.

As far as quality, I was very satisfied for the price. The dress was well made and the fabric didn't feel cheap. Warning though, don't expect a quick delivery...it took over two weeks. (Nonetheless, quicker than my Restoration Hardware swatches- still MIA.)

So, if you're great with child- or not- they sell regular women's clothing too, I would check it out here!

Long Time, No Post

Hi All! Today is my first day back after a long (and much needed) weekend. My school system gave last Friday and Monday off, and it has me longing for Spring Break (39 more days.)

I was a busy beaver this weekend though. Senior Harvards (Husband's parents) came to visit, and I registered for Jammer!

Also, I forgot to mention that for Valentine's Day, Husband got me an iPhone! (What?! I am the last person on the planet without one?) I had been holding out because 1) my Go Phone from 2008 still worked 2) I didn't want to up my plan 3) sending text messages is difficult. What was I going to go with all those features? However, with the soon arrival of Jammer, Husband felt it would be nice to take videos and send pictures.

So here is my weekend update, courtesy of my new phone.

Tough Mudder

Late post, but this past weekend, Husband and three of our friends participated in the Tough Mudder Atlanta. Six of us girls made the trek to cheer them on. Like I said yesterday, Valentine's Day is A.W.E.S.O.M.E. when you are a teacher...especially a fifth grade teacher. And while yesterday was full of cute stories and sweet gifts, this was my favorite...

A little boy approached my co-teacher and me yesterday in panic.

Boy: It's Valentine's Day...and I have nothing.

He went on to explain how he wanted to give a gift to a "friend," but did not have any balloons or candy for her. My co-teacher suggested he write something from the heart, but the boy drew a blank.

Co-teacher: Try roses are red, violets are bl-

Boy: Oh, that's good, let me get a pen and paper.

Me: Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you...but put it in your handwriting.

Later that day, when the class was passing out treats, I saw that the boy in the class was handing out miniature boxes of chocolates to the class. I wondered to myself why he didn't save one for his "friend" when he approached me with my box of chocolate.

Boy: Here you go, and look what I got myself for Valentine's Day!

He pulls out an impressive box of Starbursts. My co-teacher and I exchanged glances that read "Typical boy, buys himself something and forgets the girl." We ended up helping him rewrap the box of Starbursts and attach the poem to the top. I can't wait to hear how it went :)

Single, dating, married, or swearing it off forever, being a teacher makes Valentine's Day awesome. It is really awesome (sometimes scary) watching fifth graders on Valentine's Day. I look forward to watching the students more than what Husband has planned (is that bad?)

My date night plans are consisting of take-out and Red Box...and I am STOKED! Last year we did the fancy dinner in the city. FAIL. Do you know how many pretty people with awesome bodies are out on Valentine's Day? Nobody wants to eat their mussels dripping in butter next to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show line up.

And while I did entice Husband with the promise of a shower, my "hot" outfit will probably consist of...whatever still fits. (Don't worry, I have some cute, bump friendly outfits ready.) What would I like to wear? Well, I have been loving this look by SJP...

It Has Been a Year! (and a few days)

In the craziness I call my life, I failed to realize that last Friday marked the one year anniversary of Teach Chic!

The past year has truly been the biggest growing year for me, and I am so happy I had a blog to document it. It saw a job change for Husband, and all the scary scenarios that go with it. It saw me finding a church home ~~after almost three years in the same city.~~ It saw me finish grad school and check off a half marathon off my bucket list (truth be told, the half marathon thing was never actually on my bucket list, but whatev.) It saw one of my best friends say "I do" and others saying "Yes!" to the big question. It saw position changes for me at school..two of them in fact. And finally, it saw me through reading that positive pregnancy test with shock and disbelief, but complete and utter joy.

Though my life has greatly changed, I am glad I have an outlet to talk about it, and wonderful readers who I can share it with. Thank you!

The Nursery. In the Beginning.

The nursery.

That sentence is usually my thought process- "The Nursery."

People, it keeps me up at night. Mostly because I have thousands of nursery photos that I love, but no cohesive stream of thought.

So let's begin. In the beginning, I dreamed of bedding. I felt that it was where I needed to begin. Husband tried to reel me in "Please, let's just get a set," he begged. So I tried- really tried. And I even found a set that I liked.

I was satisfied. Ready to order. Then the problems began...

1.) I asked others opinions. They told me it was too blue

2.) So I ordered swatches since the Restoration Hardware by me doesn't carry Baby&Child. Six weeks later...still waiting. Have no idea what the color actually is.

3.) The crib skirt. It was a standard size, so in my terms "too short when the mattress is raised."

You still reading? I love you too.

So last Friday (on date night- my choice!), I decided I wanted Husband to come with me to two fabric stores ~~without complaining~~.

I left with no fabric and Husband left like this...

I spent the rest of the weekend looking and looking at bedding, but nothing was what I wanted. It all matched a little too much.

Then I (actually, my friend Susannah) found The. Perfect. Fabric...I think.

I REALLY love it, and could see it for a bambino or bambina. Even better, Momma says she can easily make an adjustable height crib skirt (Crafty Momma) using Erika Powell's (from Urban Grace) technique.

All I really care about is the crib skirt. Add a white sheet. Done. Oh, and I really like this bumper pad...

Also, do you still think it looks boyish? Suggestions for creating a neutral nursery?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!

Today is my sweet dad's birthday. Last year (on my old blog), I shared my experience with my dad taking me to a Hanson concert. This year, I will share another story that perfectly describes my dad's unselfish ways.

When I was three, all I wanted for Christmas was a pink Barbie ride-in car. Apparently, so did every other three year old, and they were sold out everywhere. Dad was on a business trip in Atlanta with a co-worker and they found one! Dad was so excited...until he remembered they were in his co-worker's two-seater sports car...with no trunk. Dad insisted that they had to get it, and so they did. It only required him to take ALL the pieces out of the box, throw the box out, and ride home with the parts.

Thank you Dad for making my Christmas wishes come true. (The next year he topped himself with a trampoline assembly in negative degree weather. We will save that story.)

I love you Dad! I hope you have the best birthday EVER!!

Case of the Blahgs

The Blahgs- a time in one's life when they have nothing or relevance or importance to report; i.e: yours truly

Life has changed so much in the past few months. I went from being consumed with clothes, shoes, purses, and make-up to waking up and going, "Please let something fit." My hair looks like a supercell hit it since I literally fell sleep last night (putting on moisturizer) with it still wet. I even almost forgot about fashion week.

I blame baby. And school. The combination has me going to bed around eight-ish and sleeping in until usually a quarter after six. (My normal routine is sleep at 11, wake-up 5:30.)

I have nothing to blog about except that Jammer is the size of an avocado and has relocated shim's eyes to the front shim's head. Oh, and apparently, a group of Native Americans from Canada were dictators during WWII (Social Studies Lesson=Fail.)

However, I can't leave you without any pictures! I had so share this one from Pinterest.

I Love the Weekend

I had a wonderful weekend celebrating the birthday or a dear friend (and fellow blogger!), Bethany. On Sunday, Husband and I ventured out to find new (to us) furniture for Baby Jammer's room. We went to My Favorite Place, a huge flea market where the possibilities are endless. I manages to maintain myself from the antique green glass punch bowl and glasses, as well as the English riding saddle. (It was hard people.)

However, I did leave with this for Jammer's room.

We are going to use it as a changing table after we paint it. That is why it is still downstairs...and apparently our new mail table. Not to bad for $80.

But then, I found this beauty...

Thanks to our newest addition, my old closet has to become his/her room. Which means all of my clothes will be sharing a home with Husband's... Our old dresser was a cheapy from Ikea, so we are going to put it in the master closet. This new piece gives us a lot more room!

Jessica's Baby Shower

Last Sunday, Amy, Alli, and I hosted a baby shower for our dear friend and co-worker, Jessica. I am so excited to meet Baby Boy Coleman! My incredible sister helped me out tremendously and did the decorations. (Craft stores ask me to take my business elsewhere.)

Apparently, Amy has a crafty side too! She made this adorable diaper wreath. I like this idea even more than the diaper cake, because it can be displayed on the hospital door/baby room's door.

(I chose not to make one.)

Golden Globe Recap- The Good, The Bad, The Navy

Even though the Golden Globes aired Sunday night, I wasn't able to watch it until Monday on DVR thanks to the NFL playoffs. However, the pups and I quite enjoyed watching (and critiquing) the ~~awards~~ fashion.

Let's first face the facts, navy has become the "go-to" color. It has become one of the most popular dress colors, and the Golden Globe attendees followed suit.

Baby Harvard will be joining us this summer!

Yes, Husband and I are pregnant! I have been very lucky so far. The first trimester wasn't too bad. I had very little morning sickness- just more tired than usual.

We are feel so blessed and excited to have ~~and dress~~ a child. To say this wasn't part of the "plan" is the understatement of the year. However, at my last doctor's appointment, I was staring at "Baby Jammer's" ultrasound pictures, laughing to myself about the changes that were going to be happening in my carefree life. As the laughter turned to nervous jitters, I overheard a women, crying to a nurse about the difficult time she was having conceiving. I felt guilty- I had this precious baby inside me without even trying. Why me (in a good way)? It was such a reminder of what a gift children are, and I how I hope not to ever take it for granted.

No, it wasn't my plan to go the entire break without blogging, but life happened.

Husband and I were lucky enough to spend time with both of our families and friends. Now, back to work. Things are going to be a little different this semester. I am going to finish the year back in fifth grade. I love fifth grade (both the students and the team), so I am very excited.

In other notes, I have a new obsession in the form of Elle Fanning- Dakota's adorable little sister. She made the cover and a spread in Teen Vogue. Is it bad that I am extremely jealous of a thirteen year old?

American Ballet's 'The Nutcracker'

I love the ballet. I loved taking ballet lessons when I was in elementary and middle school, and I love to watch it.

It was very much on my to-do list to see The Nutcracker this year, but as usual, life happened, and I missed my chance. That is why I have been swooning over the costumes from the American Ballet's production.

DISCLAIMER: First of all, I really like McDonald's. Like, a lot. And I eat it more than I should. I know this. Just thought I would get that off my chest.

I was eating at McDonald's a few weeks ago (okay, it was Monday), and I saw that I could get a Classic Coke glass with the purchase of a combo. I happily ordered a combo (because all of Husband's and my cups are from a hodge-podge of restaurants) only to be disappointed that it had to be a large combo- so no cup :(

Fast forward to more recently. Husband came home with McDonald's. (I know, I eat it a lot.) And there Southern Style chicken sandwich (people, it is amazing) was a Classic Coke glass.

Like I said previously, this holiday season has been a little different for me. My usual ~~long~~ Christmas list has stumped me. And at that very moment, all I wanted was my Classic Coke glass and the joy of knowing that he really does listen. It is going to be a very Merry Christmas. Happy Friday :)

Happy (Belated) Birthday Emma!!

Yesterday was my sister's birthday. Emma and I have a seven and a half year age difference between us. (You can call me "Surprise!") It is probably not many middle school kids' dreams to share a bedroom with their five year old sister, but we did! And survived! (This included delightful comments from me, such as, "Don't worry that Mom won't let you buy that ~~skimpy~~ swimsuit, Mom can make you one!")

Emma and I are very different. She is a planner and is super organized. She is probably was of the strongest and most confident women I know. Given the opportunity, she could seriously run a small country. She works, is a wife, mom, blogger, and somehow keeps her house (frightening) clean in that "oh, go ahead and photograph me for a magazine way."

I have always looked up to Emma. Our weddings were three months apart, and I was amazed how she planned a perfect wedding while working a full-time job. (I was finishing my last semester of college/ a job-less summer and still needed LOTS of help!)

So HAPPY (DAY LATE) BIRTHDAY EMMA! I love you!

Almost everyone adores Reese's laid-back, California style, and I too can really appreciate a more casual ensemble. (Getting on the floor with first graders while in a straight skirt can pose a problem.)

Lately, I have been exhausted. tired. defeated. I had planned to do so much this weekend. I was going to organize the kitchen, dust the downstairs (a must with dogs), and put up Christmas decorations.

Guess what I got done? Nothing.

And that is okay. If I don't get my Christmas decorations up, I will live. If there is a cup lid in the bowl/plate cabinet, the world will not end.

This weekend feed my soul in a different way. I soaked up the time. I spent quiet time with myself, with Husband, and with some of my best friends (includinglying on the floor while 15 people behind us try to watch the SEC Championship and eating vegan birthday cake.)

So while this weekend didn't go quite as planned, it was a wonderful, well-spent weekend.

Oh, but I do plan to get caught up on my life.

After 16 hours in a car...

I am back. And it was completely worth it! I had a wonderful Thanksgiving- splitting the long weekend between St. George Island and our hometown of Prattville, AL.

As the story goes though, I need a vacation from my vacation and really cannot believe I have to go teach children today. However, I saw this and found it perfect for Motivation Monday.

Today is my last day at school before Thanksgiving Break. I will be taking a break from the blog, but promise to return on Monday. As I said last week, I have so many blessing to be thankful for, but these are the top of the top.

1. My Faith- I feel that this year completely changed my perception on religion and having a relationship with God. I never knew there was a problem, until I experienced the solution. And for that, I am very thankful.

2. Husband- Amazing does not begin to describe him. He has been there for the ups and downs and kept a smile the whole way. Sometimes I feel so undeserving of how wonderful he truly is.

3. Family- How lucky I am so have a healthy, loving family! My daily phone call to my mom, no matter how long or short, brings a smile to me. Besides my biological family, my "in-law" family is just as fantastic. I am so thankful to see all of them during this week.

4. Friends- Never did I think in moving to Atlanta I would meet so many amazing people I call friends. My own special "Atlanta Family." A great friend is someone who you cannot remember life without them and that is what I have found. Both these friends, and friends far away, I am thankful to have you.

5. Job- In this economy, nobody should take their job for granted. I feel so blessed to have worked at this school for four years. I work with teachers and children I love- so I give thanks.

Late Friday afternoon, Husband and I left for Townsend, TN for one of our favorite places, Dancing Bear Lodge. Husband's parents give us this trip for Christmas, and we look forward to it all year. However...

DIY? You Obviously Haven't Met Me

I have been amazed at all the DIY pins on Pinterest lately. Do people really make this stuff? And even more importantly, does it look like what it was supposed to?

1. Life here is crazy. I have started teaching Extended Day two days a week, which means I am here at school until 5...if I am lucky. Wednesdays I am here late planning. I actually treasure Mondays...I can leave when I want.

2. With my crazy teaching life, I just don't have time to change out purses. I have never been a big purse gal (surprising, but true.) I tend to pick a bag that can go with anything and wear it until it has holes in it, ~~only for it to reappear in 6-12 months when I decided that the holes really aren't THAT noticeable.~~

My heart belongs to my black and brown Longchamp. Even though I have had other Longchamp bags, this is my favorite because it is black AND brown (and has enough room to fit a small child in it.)

I checked at Urban Grace, and literally squealed when I saw that her precious daughter was a gnome too!

As soon as this photograph was released, my friend (and fellow royal family stalker), Sus had e-mailed me the look.

As soon as I realized where it was from (Zara), I proceeded to try to order it.

And so did everyone else.

So after I dried my tears, I decided it was my mission to ~~magically become Pippa Middleton~~ find a red coat with no collar.

1st Grade- Every Monday I ask the kids what they did over the weekend. At the beginning of the year, every student said, "I went to the pool." This continued for many weeks until I knew the students were not swimming because it was too cold. Now they all tell me they went sledding at the park. This weekend it was 70 degrees.

2nd Grade- We are learning about charts and graphs. We took a poll to see the class's favorite subject- choices being Science, Reading, Math, and Art. Art won big time and not one person voted for math:( I was shocked, so asked the students why they didn't like math. One responded, "Maybe you should do more art."

2nd Grade- Test question- Estimate the length of this line. Student's response? "Ruler"

3rd Grade- Question- Which property makes 3 x 7 = 7 x 3 true? Response? "Yes-21."

4th Grade- Test Question- Write a word problem for 28 x 4. Student's response- "How can you solve 28 x 4?"

4th Grade- Question- What is another way you could solve 24 x 14? Student's Response- "Use a calculator."

5th Grade- We were reviewing our unit tests to prepare for the retest. After one student looked at her error I asked her what she would do differently next time. Her response?- "Get the right answer."

5th Grader- "I love your class. I now learn math more better." (Thank goodness I don't teach grammar.)

I am the first to admit, decorating for Halloween is not my forte. I leave that to my friend Allison- her house AND classroom have been decorated ~~since September~~. However, I have been interested (thanks to Pinterest) in getting a little creative with some pumpkins.

Best (and Cheapest) Beauty Secrets

Random Student Fact: According to one student, the average temperature of the human body in 12 inches. Bang. Head. Here.

Being a teach with a not-so-chic wallet, the beauty products have to a back seat to the groceries, bills, plethora of school stuff I have to buy. Over the past few years, I have developed some of my swear-by secrets that make me feel like a million!

Body

1. While in the shower, I slather baby oil on my legs. The water takes away the greasy feeling, but locks in the moisture. It creates an elongated leg (hello, I'm 5'4') with a shadow effect- so it looks very defined. I recommend JOHNSON'S® Baby Oil Gel with Shea and Cocoa Butter.

Mouth

2. Tiny lips? Lightly brush them with your toothbrush and water. It will take the dead skin off of your lips, leaving them plump and perfect-shade-o-pink.

3. You really can whiten teeth with baking soda! Once a day, put on your toothpaste as normal, but add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda on top. Brush away! (Warning: Don't brush your teeth with just baking soda... it is disgusting.)

Face

4. I am already terrified about wrinkles around my eyes. (Why didn't I use more sunscreen?!) To minimize lines AND decrease puffy eyes, try this. 1.) Remove eye make-up with cream cleaner. I like Pond's Cucumber Deep Cleanser. (Oh, and the best way to do this? The slab on/ wipe off method.)

Then, lightly rub Vaseline (yep, like this) in around your eye. Safe to sleep in- won't clog your pores. (And everything clogs my pores.) My MIL swears that Vaseline is the best anti-wrinkle cream.

5. I tend to have oily skin. Milk of magnesia is the best cure! Just shake the bottle and apply (works best with cotton balls.) Leave for 12-15 minutes and rinse. I like Phillips' Strawberry Flavor (because it smells better.)

Hair

6. Weekend life left your hair full of product? Mix 1 c of vinegar (Apple Cider smells better than the regular kind) and warm water in a large glass. Rinse your hair with this after you shampoo/ before you condition. It will remove build-up and leaves your hair shiny.

Husband and I are very lucky that we live near an Ikea. Thanks to their affordable prices, we were able to furnish our home during of first years of marriage. The downside is that every other broke person in the greater Atlanta region flocks to Ikea to furnish their home. Dilemma? A bunch of cookie cutter living/dining/bedrooms. Almost every twenty-something home I enter has an Ikea lamp, bedside table, furniture, etc... (DISCLAIMER: Some Ikea pieces are AMAZING! Like our bed that I love!)

Solution: Ikea Hackers. Now you can still buy the inexpensive ~~big box~~ Ikea pieces, but give them your own personal (dare I say) "flair."

Double Time

Currently, Husband and I reside in two bedroom townhome. When we bought it, the idea was that one room would be a master bedroom and the other a guest bedroom. After two years, and only around 6 guests, I decided that there were better purposes for bedroom dos... so I turned it into a closet :)

This has lasted for about four months. I love it. Husband says, "No Way." I am constantly coming up with new ideas for this room, and lately I have been stuck on the idea of twin beds.

When I think about Old Navy, fashion is sometimes not the first word that comes into my head. Instead, I think of annoying jingles and fleece.

Yes, yes, my youngest fur baby is one! Actually, she was one last Friday, but we are celebrating it today due to the craziness of this past weekend. As I have said before, my dogs are so important to me. I love them, they are my family. My Winnie has changed so much in her first year. (Most obviously in weight- 8 lbs to 65 lbs.)

So let's see how Winnie has changed in the past year. The night we brought her home...

Wedding Weekend...It Is Finished

I am typing this blog with one eye open, the other catching up on the sleep I have been needing since Wednesday night. But today, it is finished.

Susannah and Alex are married and it could not have been a more special day. My camera was with me for about 15% of the events, but I will share with you what I have.

Wednesday night was a mani/pedi/dinner party...

The B2B with the flower girl, Joie Beth...aka JoJo. I use to think I wanted to have all boys. Then I met JoJo. Completely. Obsessed.

Yum Yum- no party without food

Thursday night, our friends the de Mayo's hosted a party to celebrate the upcoming weekend. I could kick myself for not bringing my camera. The party was amazing, and the 19 of us that went to Miami were reunited once again.

Friday morning was the Bridesmaid Luncheon. It was so beautiful.
